Wondering if anyone out there has a favorite app they use for graphing designs that will allow them to be saved as a pdf. I use Knit Companion to help my knitting progress. I‘m think such an app would be great for creating ones own special mitten.
I really can not give advice about ease. A Selbu mitten should fit and fit snuggly. It is all down the the measurements given within the pattern.
It is best to take your hand measurements and match them to the measurements within the pattern...as close as possible. Get gauge and make sure you maintain it.
I am just not experienced with modern patterns in which you choose a variety of sizes. In traditional historic Selbu patterns, as you would know from the basic course...we only use the measurements and adjust the sizing with our needle size and the thickness of the yarn.
I hope this helps until we start.
I will have some really good pattern recommendations once we get…
Looking forward to this. I'm still mulling over the pattern I will use. In the first course I used a Skeindeer pattern, got gauge recommended for my hand size but found the mitten to be too large (all having to due with the positive ease from a width standpoint and about an inch too long - but better a bit too long than too short). I will find someone to gift the mittens to eventually. It certainly made me appreciate how each farm might have their own pattern(s) to fit the wearer's hands.
As I contemplate the many patterns out there, can you give any guidance as to the amount of ease is considered normal, whether as a measurement…

Patricia, Thank you that is very helpful. In Skeindeer's pattern, she gives a variety of gauges to correspond to her sizes.
