I hope I'm not too late to leave a comment here. I've just received my yarn, so I'm swatching as fast as I can.
Are we checking our gauge on the unblocked or blocked swatch? I did not get gauge on the unblocked swatch (24 stitches to 3 5/8" - too tight). However, when I blocked it, the yarn relaxed and I had gauge (24 stitches to 4"). I didn't stretch or pin the swatch, just let it relax.I'm using 3.75 mm needles, if that makes a difference. My swatch on 3.5 mm needles was way too small.
Also - I'm not even close to row gauge. Will that be an issue? I'm getting only 3" from 27 rows.
Hello! We measure our gauge unblocked and blocked always. The information you gain from both is important to have during the knitting and to get the perfect fit.
I did another swatch and with a 3.75 mm needle and got the gauge of 24 st for 10cm. I am ready to start the cast on but have a question about the sizing.
I did the 3 measurements and got the average number. How do I apply that to the sizing on the pattern?
Hi Patricia. I hope you are doing well and getting some rest. I had a question about gauge and sizing. My gauge is 23 sts in 10 cm (24 sts in 4 inches though). The Tynset specifically states a gauge of 24 sts in 10 cm so I have 1 less stitch. I would like to still use the 3.5mm metal needle though as I don't have a 4mm size. For the 98cm size, if I did my math right, this would put me having a size of 94cm instead of 98cm due to the decrease in stitches. Does this sound right to you? If this sounds right, my measurement for underarm is 90cm leading to only a positive ease…

Thank you Patricia. I am unsure if I will be able to attend but I will keep working and go from there :)

I will be attending your Zoom clinic tomorrow.
Thank you
Arlene
Maggie - if you have gotten gauge on 3.5 mm needles. I am unsure why you need 4.0 mm needles?
Also, if you have gauge - this math you are calculating is unnecessary. You need only to
have the exact gauge and then choose the size connected to your measurements.
Deciding on a fitted Kofte or one with ease.
If you or anyone would like additional yarn, you can order it and I will gladly send it along.
Will you be joining Zoom on Sunday?
