Hi Patricia...Thank you again for all you do...and without intentionally addind to what you have to do...I wondered if it might be possible to record the Zoom check ins for those of us who can't make it on Wednesday. We may still be able to get additional info from those. I am not tech savy enough to know if this is possible or how much work it would involve so no worries at all if this is a bad idea. After your additional blog post...wish I had been able to attend. Take care!

Ruth and tomokom1 - Unfortunately, Selbu mittens do not work like this. You don't add rows or take away rows to adjust the size.

The size is adjusted by the thickness of the yarn and the size of the needles.

The motif would not be disturbed and you would only decrease at the tip as indicated within the chart.

Adjusting the size depends completely on the pattern you have in mind.

You must begin with the measurements of the mitten design, the gauge, needle recommendation and yarn.

Then adjust it up or down.

I am answering this from the perspective of what is done traditionally here in Selbu, Norway, of course.

They would never disturb the design of the mitten…

hi, patricia

i have been working on a few mittens using different patterns to understand how to read the patterns better. and I certainly understand and agree that one should never interrupt the rose pattern in the middle, but some patterns have repetitive designs at the top so that one can easily shorten it by skipping several rows......for someone like me with very small hands. Would it be safe to say that I can start decreasing when the little finger is covered.......as in the case of socks where I usually start decreasing at the top of my small toe?

Hey Patricia. I’m so loving this course. I need to know where you might add length to the mitten to accommodate long fingers and thumbs. Perhaps a small design between roses or at the end?
