Good morning! I have no questions or concerns over my mittens at this time but would love to pop in and listen to the zoom meeting this afternoon....I live in Montana, USA, (mountain standard time). Thank you Patricia for being a calm, bright spot in the weird year of 2020!

tomokom1 - I know what you mean about the 2 stitches that are to the right. From the pattern instructions, it is as if they become part of the total stitch count of the main body of the mitten.

When you count your stitches including those 2 stitches...do I understand that you mean they are extra?

Because, as the pattern is written...they are not extra but should be included within the palm.

If this is the case, I do not know if this is an error.

Also, I would not decrease down to the correct number until a couple of rows in if you are over your stitch count. This will weaken your stability after transitioning and casting on your…

Thank you for your answer, but I still don’t understand what to do for the second row after casting 14 stitches because there are no squares above the first 2 stitches of that row to indicate that those 2 stitches are part of the main body pattern? should I just the knit the first 2 stitches together for the next 2 rows to eliminate them?

tomokom1 - Thank you for your patience! I have checked your Selbu mitten pattern. That one stitch on the right...should pleand in to your palm pattern.

As you say, you are putting 15 sts on hold between the two increase dots.

Those two dark stitches on the right and the left of those stitches should be a part of your main body stitch count and work into your palm pattern.

You are casting on only 14 stitches...so the + 1 stitch should make up for the 15 stitches you have placed on hold.

Designers will do this so that you have a stitch for stability. My pattern had 2 stability stitches.

I hope this helps you!
