Who knew thumbs could be so challenging! For the example on page 285, it looks like there should be a column of white stitches to the on the far left of the thumb pattern. But my main confusion lies with the patterning continuation. It seems to me that the gusset should have been placed 2 stitches in from the left in order to have a smooth transition. But perhaps I’m not really understanding how the hinge affects the design. I’m going to try to attach a photo to show what I mean. The top shows how I think the design will transition if knit as is. I’m looking at the next example on p 255. My first question is when we pick up the 2 stitches for the stolpe (and the corresponding 2 for the second stolpe) are we picking them up along the palm or in the gap between our on hold stitches and the palm? My second question involves picking up the stitches for the hinge. I understand that we pick up exactly what we cast on. But we cast on 12 and are going to need 15 stitches for the inside of the thumb (excluding any stolpe stitches). Do we knit the hinge stitches as cast on and then do M1 increases on the next rows get us to the number and pat…

I’m taking this session very slowly as I need time to visualize everything - especially with having to turn the book - it will be easier with an actual mitten I think. I’ve been going over the example on p. 248. 18 stitches were cast on to complete the palm. When we go to pick up stitches for the thumb my understanding is that we pick up the 13 that correspond to the chart , along the sides we then pick up 2 for the stolpe, knit the saved stitches, and along the side pick up 2 for the remaining stolpe. My question is what happens to the space for the other 5 stitches that were cast on fo…

My pattern for the gloves is coming on nicely. Just a lot of stitches...

Knitting with Jamison & Smith lace weight yarn and 1.5 mm needles. I have 90 stitches around the body now 😁

Now knitting the second one up to this point... Let's go 🧶
