Maggie - I guess you can choose whichever strand you would like, but I always take the uppermost horizontal bar of yarn that makes the soup bowl shape in between the stitches to make my increases.
I honestly have never noticed a difference. As you are making the stitch with the colour needed and that bar of yarn is moved to the back of the new stitch.
Hi class! I have caught up to completing the thumb gusset on my first mitten. For that portion it is alternating between the 2 colors for each stitch (Selbu Mittens by Skeindeer). This means that when I got to M1L or M1R I have a strand of each color to choose from the make the stitch with. Does it matter which color I use? So far it seems to look great on the first mitten (really wanted to get some of it done tonight) but can change up the technique for mitten #2 if need be. I live somewhere rather warm but eventually it will be cold in Dec/Jan and I can use these mittens. I'm really loving the process…
Mary - Catching floats is about maintaining your tension. I never think about where to catch my floats. I just catch them. Look closely if you can in the video. I catch my floats at the end of every row. There isn’t any problem.
I think you might be given this advice because of floats showing on the right side of the fabric. This is a tension problem.
I catch my floats every 4th stitch sometimes on the fifth. If I had to think about it more than that, the joy of knitting would be completely zapped.
That makes sense! Thank you so much Patricia. I hope you have a lovely rest of day.

Thanks Patricia - that does help!
Mary.

Maintain a goof tension and all will be well.
Hope this helps.
